Happy Halloween!!!

What did everyone do on Halloween night? We don't get any TOTers (trick-or-treaters) so we went to Rose and Dave's house. We have been going there for the last few years. We have a special Halloween dinner and then hand out candy. Every year my mom makes a few Halloween themed food items. This year she made mashed potato ghosts. Normally she also makes devilled eggs that look like eyeballs but we finally decided we liked the way normal devilled eggs taste better. This year Virleni made normal devilled eggs and we garnished them with my radish eyeballs. Instead of my mom's sloppy joe that she normally makes Rose made pulled barbecue beef. It was quite tasty. It seemed like we got more teenagers than small children. I wonder if that is because there are more activities offered for children at malls, schools, community centers, etc. I may be old fashioned but I plan to take my children trick-or-treating on Halloween night. I don't think anyone should miss out on that! These pictures are from my phone!

Family Halloween Party

On Sunday we had our family over for a little Halloween open house. We made a lot of the same food we had for our party last Saturday. I think everyone enjoyed the turkey head and the fingers!

What a cute little goldfish!

Halloween 2006 Pictures

I added all the party pictures to "Halloween 2006" on the left. Go take a look!

I forgot!

I forgot to post pictures of me and Virleni!

This is my favorite picture of Virlena. She is handing out jell-o shots in our miniature coffin!

Party 10/21/06

We had a wonderful time at the party. We hope everyone else had as much fun as we did! This is us in our best goth gear. Virlena is dressed as a "Gothic Undertaker", atleast that is what the package said. My costume was called a "Gothic Slayer". I didn't really consider my costume as that though. . .we just wanted to look gothic. A few of our guests camed dressed in their best gothic gear too!
Here are a few of the costume contest winners!

Scariest: Traci as Jesus

Most Unique: Marni as the Dead Country Western Singer
Funniest: Aimee as the Dead Dog Trainer (who was attacked by her dogs)

Just Because Award: Lise as the 70's boa lady (I'm not quite sure of her exact title)

For more fabulous costume pictures click on Halloween 2006 on the left. (Okay, it isn't there yet but it will be soon). Everyone was so creative. It was very hard to chose winners for the costume contest. We always forget to give them out until the very end of the party. This year I had a little fun with the tequilla so I don't really remember how we picked the winners!

Besides all of the wonderful costumes we had a bunch of great food. Cally, the Peacock, made a wonderful eyeball (grape) salad.

Here are some pictures of the food table.

Thanks to everyone for celebrating with us!!!!

Party Prep Pictures

I took Friday off work to get ready for Saturday. In the morning we went out for a quick breakfast and then headed off to the storage unit. We needed to dump the orange and black totes we had been storing in Virlena's car to make room for the dance floor. After the storage unit we went to the rental place. The dance floor came in 12 3 x 3 pieces. I think we had forgotten from last year how hard it was to get it in the house and set it up. Luckily I had learned from last year how to carry it so I wouldn't puncture my fingers every time I carried a piece in. While I was carrying it in Virlena was in the basement trying to piece it together. After about an hour we had it all set up. The basement was finally ready.

After we cleaned up the dining room and kitchen it was time to go grocery shopping. When we got back I made a batch of witches' fingers and I tried to make royal icing spiders. I guess I didn't quite make the frosting correctly because they never set. It wasn't a big loss because they didn't look very good anyway. I also made the radish eyeballs. We finally made it to bed around midnight.

On Saturday we got up and worked on some things we had to finalize. I did a few things to the bathroom upstairs, made the turkey head, founds spots for random things, etc. Virlena made costume awards, signs for parking, empty bottles, trash, the food and so many more things that I am not even sure of. At about 5:00 we were finally ready for the party. Since it wasn't supposed to start until 8:00 we had a few hours to rest until we had to get the food out at 7:30.

Jell-o shots

Tonight while Virlena worked on a special project in the basement I made margarita jell-o shots. This is our favorite recipe. We are actually having some right now. :)

Yeah for Orange and Back Totes

We finally went to our storage unit and resuced most of our totes. We didn't need everything this year so we left a few. . .the poor cute Halloween decorations never seem to make it out of storage. Maybe they will one year when we need to be more kid-friendly.

We spent the last weekend and everyday this week so far getting ready. We have created some new "art" pieces to go along with our "goth" theme. I have to admit that when I come down in the morning when it is still dark I am slightly taken by surprise still by what I see.

I still haven't found a place for my corpse yet! We have a few more projects to do but we aren't able to do them until the day before or the day of the party.

Snow in October?

I can deal with snow in November but NOT IN OCTOBER! How is that even possible??? Okay, I know it is possible, but it is just not time yet!!! As you can see from the picture our poor burning bush hasn't even had a chance to turn completely red yet!!! On my way to work this morning I was thinking to myself that Christmas is alsmot here. Visions of sugar plums started to dance in my head. Then I remembered it is only October12th!!! Crazy snow!!!!

My Birthday Weekend

On Saturday we had some friends over to celebrate my 30th birthday. Virlena made up little Halloween goodie bags to give everyone and she made me wear a little Halloween hate she made. In the pictures I am holding up the front and the back of a the shirt Jen and Gretchen had made for me. They took a quote from my blog and had it put on the shirt!

We worked
on some party stuff this weekend but since Virlena was sick and we were preoccupied with my birthday we didn't get much accomplished.

Food for the Soul

This picture was stoled from Butterbeans and Baby Dreams. It is from our Soul Food dinner this weekend. I haven't taken any new pictures of the projects we worked on this weekend and I wanted to post something! Since "soul" can also be used to mean spirit or ghost I thought it was appropriate!

I finished painting the vault door and Virlena worked on the basement some more. It is hard to believe that there are only two weeks until the party. We have a lot of work to do still. We normally like to have our e-vite out by now but we just haven't had the time. Maybe tomorrow we will work on that.
