Dry Ice vs. Mister

I love the look of dry ice in a cauldron. Well, I should say I love it for about 60 seconds and then the effect wears off as the water around it gets colder. I wish the effect could sustain itself for hours at full strength. I have thought about putting a pot of water on the stove on warm and just chuck in pieces of dry ice throughout the night. But then I realize that I really will not want to do that once I start chatting and dancing and doing tequila shots! We bought a fog machine a few years ago but it is not really ideal for indoor use. . .It mainly just makes your house look like it is filled with smoke. . .Not really the look we want. There are project directions on the internet about how to make a "fog chiller". This device cools down the fog so it lays low to the ground. This still really won't work for a cauldron. Last week Virlena found a mister on the internet. We got it in the mail today. It is very cool! It does just want I want it to do. Now the only question is where will we put it!!!

Tales from our Crypt

One of my favorite days of season is going to Michael's and seeing their new Halloween stuff for the first time each year. It is like going to Disneyland! There wasn't anything we couldn't live without so all we bought was a culdron for now. After Michael's we went to Joann's. They didn't really have much of their Halloween stuff out yet. When we first walked in we ran into Nicole. She told us she saw a drooling plastic rat at Big Lots and she thought of me! Wasn't that sweet of her to say? :)

Instead of turning our basement into a dungeon we thought we would turn it in to a crypt. Virlena has some terrific ideas on what she wants to do so we picked up a few supplies from Michael's to get us started. It looks like she is going to convince Jen to help us a little later when we need more expert engineering help!

Silver Cleaning?

Over the summer I have purchased a lot of very old tarnished silver pieces for our table decor, etc. I was looking online on ways to clean silver last week and I found an article that suggested using baking soda and water. I tried that tonight and it slightly cleaned the tarnish off. Does anyone have any favorite ways to clean silver? (not that I really expect many people I know to actually clean silver. . .but you never know, right?!?)

Mystery Gift

Tonight after we got back from dinner with Jen and Gretchen we found a little Halloween surprise hanging from our doorknob. Someone had left a little bag of Halloween candles. Obviously it is from someone who knows me and my Halloween obsession. . .But who is it????

Halloween shopping

I had read on the Halloween Forum that Big Lots has some of their Halloween stuff out already. I talked Virlena in to taking me Friday after work. I didn't really find anything I wanted. There was this plastic hanging bat that I thought was cool but I didn't get it. I think I will have to go back though and pick it up. Today we went to Menard's to take advantage of their 17% off sale. Virlena got some roles of black plastic. I believe she will be using this for the basement walls but she wasn't quite clear on that. . .she tells me it is a surprise. I am excited to see what she has planned. I found some good blacklight bulbs possiblly for the upstairs bathroom and a nice red porch light. I also got a couple new black boxes for my Nightmare Before Christmas bathroom. We thought this would be a good opportunity to stock up on black spray paint since we go through so much of it this time of year. If it doesn't move it gets sprayed black!

Save the Date

We have decided that our party this year will be on Saturday, October 21st. Start thinking of your costumes! Last year at the last minute we decided to buy prizes for a costume contest. Of course we remembered to give the prizes out at the end of the party. We might remember to do it a tad bit earlier in the evening this year.

List for Virlena

Now that the wedding is done it is time for us to pull out our Halloween stuff and start planning and building props for the quickly approaching Halloween Season. Virlena asked me to hold off on getting everything out of storage for a week or so to give her time to organize the wedding stuff. I figured I could wait a bit. In the meantime I have made a list for her. I love when I go to work and come home and find she has completed a Halloween project! I have decided to give her full reign in regards to the basement walls. Besides the walls I have also assigned her a printing project. More about that later!
