Basement

In the midst of wedding planning Virlena and I have had a few Halloween conversations. Every year we like to make things a little different. One thing that hasn't really changed it the look of the basement. The last couple of years we have completely covered it in black plastic. It gives it that nicely homey dungeon feel! Virlena thinks we should change things up a bit and do something different this year. Every idea we have come up would cost a bit more than we would like to spend. I am all for hanging the black plastic and just changing the props a bit. We finally decided that Virlena can be in charge of the basement walls and I can be in charge of everything else. That sounded like a good compromise to me! I did have a few ideas for doing the walls in the basement that would still involve the black plastic but would make it look a little different. I have passed those on to Virlena and I am sure they are running around in the back of her mind just waiting until we get back from Vegas so she can get started!

A Mythical Monster Made My Day

Medusa was one of three Gorgans (mythical feminine creatures that could turn people to stone with their stare). Medusa was the only mortal one. She was killed by Perseus who cut of her head and gave it to Athena. Okay, enough of the Greek Mythology and back to the real story! Marni, pictured here in her fabulous Medusa costume, made my day today! She was the first person to ask when our Halloween party is going to be this year. It makes me happy that someone cared enough to ask!

What is bigger than a rat but smaller than a cat?

Anyone have any answers to that? Preferably something from the Animal Kingdom.

Thinking. . .

Our upcoming ceremony has been keeping me so busy lately all I have had time to do for Halloween is to think about it! I have had trouble sleeping lately with all that is going on. One day last week, about 1:00 in the morning, I had a thought on what I wanted to with the upstairs bathroom. We have a lot of potions and jars of various spooky ingredients from past years that I have been wanting to add on to and showcase better. My early morning thought was to turn the blue bathroom into a potions room. I would need to make a lot more to totally create the look I want. Luckily with the jars and bottles I have been collecting since last year I will have most of the supplies I need. Now what to do with the walls. . .My first thought was to totally cover the walls with different potion recipes. Of course that would mean making up crazy recipes, printing them off, dying them to get the perfect aged potion recipe look and then plastering them all over the bathroom. The first three steps would be fun but plastering them all over the bathroom wall the day of the party (I can't imagine Virlena letting me do this too far ahead of time!) would be quite time consuming. Then I had had another thought. . .I wondered if the blue walls would glow under blacklight. This is something I still need to look into. If they actually glow then I could make some of the potions glow. . .I need to think on this some more.

Cemetery walking

A few days ago I was driving by the Mt. Hope cemetery and there were people walking. By walking I mean walking for exercise, not walking to visit dead people. Today Maria was talking about starting a running/walking club and she mentioned that the running and the walking might take place in a cemetery instead of on a track. For those of you that know me well you are aware that I love cemeteriees. How fun would it be to exercise in a cemetery?!? Virlena and I drove around Mt. Hope cemetery today on the way home from running errands. It is huge! There are lots of little hills too. It would be perfect for walking!

Speaking of cemeteries. . .Does anyone have a favorite cemetery that they think is worth visiting? My favorites up to this point are Graceland cemetery in Chicago (no, not the place where Elvis used to live and is buried - although I have been there too), and the many cemeteries in New Orleans.

Cally's Closet

I was at Cally's house yesterday and we were talking about our Halloween Costumes. Cally has a wonderful idea for her costume this year. I hope she ends up doing it because it sounds very fun! Somehow she ended up showing me a skirt she bought awhile back and it is perfect for what I want for my costume. She continued to pull out shirts and a corset that could possibly go with it. I have decided that her closet is my new official costume closet! It is good to have a friend that loves to shop and always finds good deals!

That is Cally in the middle not wearing a costume last year!
